A woman reportedly returned after attending a friend’s owambe party to find that her husband and children had left their rental flat while she was away.
According to information shared online, the couple was experiencing financial troubles and had accrued two years of overdue rent.
Their landlord had issued a last warning, forcing the husband and wife to consider cost-cutting and savings.
The husband was alleged to have pleaded with his wife not to attend the social gathering, saying that the family needed to save every naira.
She insisted on attending, citing that she had already purchased her aso ebi and did not want to let her buddy down.
While she was travelling over the public holiday season, the couple’s children were involved in an incident at home.
According to reports, the older child accidently threw hot water on her younger sister while preparing a lunch.
The injured toddler was brought to a hospital for treatment. The husband was contacted and promptly left work following fruitless attempts to contact his wife. The child was later released after obtaining medical care.
During the same time frame, the landlord allegedly gave the family 48 hours to depart the property. Faced with a deadline, the husband sold his motorbike, borrowed money from his brother, and relocated to a smaller flat in another region.
With the help of neighbours, he packed the family’s possessions and relocated with the children before his wife returned.
When the woman returned from the party, she discovered the former flat empty and locked.
She was claimed to have started asking neighbours whether they knew where her husband and children had moved.
