“What worries me is the people and how they will protect their votes” — Peter Obi speaks on 2027 election

Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, has voiced concerns about the 2027 general election, stating that his main issue is not the final result but rather if Nigerians will be able to safeguard their ballots.

Speaking on Sunday, Obi participated in a thank-you tour for the party’s Kogi East senatorial candidate, Peter Ameh, while visiting Ogugu in Kogi State’s Olamaboro Local Government Area.

Speaking to supporters, the former governor of Anambra State urged the Independent National Electoral Commission to guarantee that voters’ wishes are honoured and called for a free, fair, and credible election.

Speaking about his concerns ahead of the election, Obi said, “I am not worried about what the outcome of the 2027 general election will be. What worries me is the people and how they will protect their votes on election day.”

He emphasised that Nigerians’ votes must be counted, citing poverty and hunger as two issues that need immediate attention.

Obi added, “This time around, our votes must count. Nigerians must elect those who will lead them.”

Additionally, he asked Nigerians to evaluate candidates on the basis of their aptitude, ability, compassion, character, and dedication to the country’s advancement.

Despite the nation’s agricultural potential, Obi voiced concerns about the state of rural communities and the challenges faced by farmers after the election.

“As I moved around, I felt pain seeing how Nigerians are living,” he said.

In a same vein, Ameh called on voters to exercise caution during the 2027 elections while drawing attention to the inadequate roads, medical facilities, and other infrastructure issues that Kogi East towns face.
