“Wetin I go do with your intellect?” – Tekno weighs in on ‘Olodo Uprising’ trend, Carter Efe’s popularity

Afrobeats musician Tekno has commented on the “Olodo Uprising,” a movement that challenges the entertainment industry’s increasing focus on intellectualism.

Speaking on Yanga FM, the singer made the case that simple humor and silly behavior can also keep audiences entertained, arguing that people do not always consume entertainment because of intelligence or intellectual depth.

Tekno said this while considering the success of comedian Carter Efe and renowned Nollywood performers like Mr. Ibu and Osuofia.

“Intellectual no dey work again. Wetin I go do with your intellect? I can watch Carter Efe for hours and just be laughing at him, just being goofy, because that’s interesting,” he stated.

The singer noted that the appeal of characters like Osuofia and Mr. Ibu frequently stemmed from their amusing and seemingly foolish behavior, drawing a comparison between the trend and how audiences used to enjoy them.

He clarified that the main distinction now is that people can exhibit such personalities and make money doing so from the comfort of their own homes.

“Back in the day wey you dey watch Osuofia and Mr. Ibu, wetin make you been like them? No be the mumu wey dem dey mumu? So it’s nothing new, just that now you can do mumu in your own home and get paid,” he added.

Tekno’s remarks coincide with discussions surrounding the term “Olodo Uprising,” which has been used to characterize the rising appeal of performers who rely on humor, simplicity, and unusual content.
