Nigerian social media personality VeryDarkMan has attacked Vice President Kashim Shettima for the ongoing killings and kidnappings in Borno State.
In a viral video circulating on social media, the activist accused the government of failing to safeguard residents despite numerous attacks purportedly carried out by terrorists within the state.
In response to allegations that suspected terrorists abducted more than 100 women and children in the Ngoshe hamlet of Gwoza Local Government Area, VeryDarkMan questioned what the Vice President had done to address the security situation.
“Vice President Shettima, you are from Borno State, yet every day your people are being killed and nothing is being done,” he said in the video.
According to him, the ongoing attacks have grown so common that many Nigerians no longer respond negatively to such news.
He contended that the normalisation of violence has resulted in decreased public engagement when stories of killings surface.
The social media critic also questioned the political goals of politicians running for re-election despite chronic security challenges.
He highlighted that Shettima had previously served as governor of Borno State and should be aware of the gravity of the crisis confronting the region.
VeryDarkMan also questioned government programs aimed at rehabilitating imprisoned insurgents, claiming that authorities should emphasise protecting innocent civilians.
The video elicited varied reactions on social media, with some Nigerians supporting his fears about insecurity and others criticising his tone toward political leaders.
The remarks came amid ongoing national debates over security issues impacting various sections of the country.
