US issues security alert for citizens in Nigeria amid escalating conflict with Iran

The US government has issued a security alert for its citizens in Nigeria due to escalating tensions between the US and Iran.

Americans in the country have been warned to be cautious amid ongoing military operations in the Middle East.

According to a statement issued on Monday, US authorities urged citizens abroad to exercise extra caution.

The alert warned of potential travel disruptions caused by periodic airspace closures related to the ongoing crisis.

“Following the launch of U.S. combat operations in Iran, Americans worldwide and especially in the Middle East should follow the guidance in the latest security alerts issued by the nearest U.S. embassy or consulate,” the advisory stated.

It also urged citizens to enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program for timely updates and to follow the Department of State’s WhatsApp channel for further information.

The advisory comes after reports by Iranian media confirming the death of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei in airstrikes reportedly carried out by the United States and Israel.

Several other high-ranking Iranian officials were also said to have been killed.

In retaliation, Iran reportedly launched multiple missiles targeting U.S. bases in Gulf countries, including Saudi Arabia, vowing to avenge the deaths.

Speaking during the attacks on Saturday, U.S. President Donald Trump stated he was determined to eliminate members of the Iranian regime, underscoring the escalating tensions in the region.

As the situation develops, U.S. citizens in Nigeria and across the Middle East are urged to stay alert, follow official guidance, and monitor updates from the embassy.
