The University of Calabar (UNICAL) has suspended nine students for examination misconduct and result fabrication, according to The Cable.
The judgement was revealed on Tuesday in an official statement by the Registrar, Chukwuka Icha. He noted that the decision was reached after debates at the institution’s 252nd Senate meeting.
According to the statement, the Senate carefully reviewed the findings given by its ad hoc committee on examination malpractice and the students’ disciplinary committee.
Five of the affected pupils were found guilty of exam malpractice.
The remaining four were sanctioned for submitting fake academic results to the university.

“After reviewing the reports and recommendations of the committees, the management resolved that the affected students should be suspended for two academic sessions and the suspension will take effect from the 2024/2025 academic year,”
Five pharmacy students are among those who have been suspended. They include Akwuba Enestina and Udom Iboro, both 300 level, Nwankwo Daniel, 200 level, and Ore Israel and Chisom Ejafa, 500 level.
Other individuals affected by the decision include Lazarus Ebogo from the Department of Home Economics, Ele Godwin from the Department of Zoology, Ofem Patrick from the Department of Science Laboratory Technology, and Makailu Pamilo from the Department of Linguistics and Communication Studies.
The university administration has asked the department heads and deans to enforce the suspension.
The acting Chief Security Officer has also been instructed to ensure strict adherence to the directive.
