According to FIFA president Gianni Infantino, US President Donald Trump plans to attend the 2026 FIFA World Cup final and participate in the trophy presentation ceremony.

The final is set for July 19 at MetLife Stadium, which will serve as the tournament’s showcase event.

Although Trump has not visited any matches since the competition began on June 11, Infantino stated that the US president will be present for the final.

Speaking to Fox, Infantino stated that Trump would accompany him in the final stages of the competition to help hand over the trophy to the winning team.

“We will be together with the president enjoying the final and handing the trophy to the winner, of course,” Infantino said.

When asked if they would present the prize jointly, he responded, “Of course, we are together all the time.”

The United States, Canada, and Mexico will co-host the World Cup, with the United States hosting 78 of the tournament’s 104 matches.

Despite the fact that the event is mostly held on American soil, Trump has yet to attend a match.

According to Andrew Giuliani, executive director of the White House’s World Cup task team, the president’s schedule has kept him from making an appearance thus far.

Giuliani told the Telegraph that Trump prefers to keep people guessing about when he will attend an event.

Trump’s scheduled participation in the World Cup final follows his appearance in the 2025 Club World Cup final at MetLife Stadium.

On that occasion, he remained on the winners’ stage after giving the trophy to Chelsea captain Reece James, providing an attention-grabbing scene for fans and players.

Reflecting on the incident, James stated, “They told me that he was going to present the trophy and then exit the stage, and I thought he was going to leave, but he wanted to stay.”

The World Cup final is expected to draw hundreds of millions of viewers worldwide, with Trump now scheduled to appear prominently in the tournament’s closing ceremony.
