Donald Trump has shared an AI-generated image of himself and members of his cabinet relaxing inside the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, drawing widespread reactions online.
The edited image, posted on Trump’s Truth Social platform, showed the president floating in a gold inflatable chair while giving a thumbs-up gesture. The image also featured JD Vance, Marco Rubio, and Doug Burgum.
The post appeared to reference ongoing renovation work at the historic reflecting pool, where the U.S. government is reportedly spending $1.5 million to repair leaks and apply a new coating ahead of the country’s 250th anniversary celebrations in 2026.
While discussing the renovation, Trump criticised the previous administration, claiming the site had been poorly maintained under former president Joe Biden.
The renovation project forms part of broader preparations for the United States’ 250th Independence anniversary on July 4, 2026. Proposed celebration plans reportedly include a large ceremonial monument nicknamed the “Arc de Trump,” inspired by Arc de Triomphe, as well as a mixed martial arts event on the White House lawn.
Trump has also reportedly floated other controversial ideas tied to the anniversary, including commemorative coins featuring his image, despite longstanding U.S. traditions against placing living individuals on currency.
The AI-generated image and the administration’s broader anniversary plans have sparked mixed reactions online, with supporters praising the ambitious celebration proposals while critics questioned their tone and symbolism.
