Trump Drops Bold Statement Against Iran, Says Strait of Hormuz Could Become U.S. Territory Soon

President Donald Trump indicated on Friday that he could soon designate the Strait of Hormuz as territory of the United States while firmly restating his position that Iran must never be permitted to develop or possess a nuclear weapon.

According to a report by Iran International on August 14, 2026, the president made clear that he anticipates announcing in the near future that the strategically vital waterway will be considered a territory of the United States.

He further explained that Iran would have succeeded in obtaining a nuclear weapon if American forces had not conducted B-2 bomber strikes during the twelve-day conflict that occurred in June 2025.

Trump stressed that without those military actions the situation would have resulted in Iran possessing such a capability and he reiterated with certainty that the country will never acquire a nuclear weapon.

These remarks show the ongoing emphasis placed by the administration on maintaining strict control over regional security dynamics and preventing any advancement in Iran’s nuclear ambitions.
