“This boy will go to your change over switch and lose everything" - Lady recounts experience with a new tenant

Online discussions have been triggered by a Nigerian woman’s dramatic description of an unsettling encounter with a new neighbor that she posted on X, formerly Twitter.

The woman detailed in a long post how a man who had just moved into her compound allegedly started tampering with the building’s electrical systems, frightening and annoying the occupants.

She said the man seemed overconfident in his technical skills and claimed to be highly educated with a background in electrical engineering and coding.

The woman described how the man started examining electrical switches throughout the compound soon after they moved in, publicly criticizing the work of the electrician who had wired the structure.

He insisted that the entire compound was badly wired, according to her, and he even stated that he wanted to go inside the apartments of the residents to completely rewire them.

The man allegedly went to the main electrical box in the compound and tampered with it, which resulted in a complete power outage, escalating the situation.

Residents initially believed it was a general power failure until they later discovered that the blackout was caused by his actions.

She added that he was unable to restore the electricity, forcing the compound to call an external electrician late at night to fix the issue.

Sharing her growing fear, the lady revealed that she later saw the same man again with tools, heading towards the electrical area, raising concerns that another outage could occur. She warned that any further interference would not be taken lightly.

She also recounted a more personal incident that first made her uncomfortable. According to her, the man once knocked on her door during breakfast and asked to come inside.

Once allowed in, she said he walked around her apartment inspecting switches without clear permission, claiming he was comparing her wiring to his own. She later discovered he had done the same to other neighbours.

“This boy will go to your change over switch abi control switch and lose everything,” she wrote. “He even told us that the electrician that wired the whole compound did a bad job.”

She added, “No one knew what happened, we thought Nepa generally took the light… until we got back in the night and found out he was the one that went to lose it and couldn’t fix it.”

The post has since drawn attention online, with many users debating boundaries, consent, and the risks of unauthorised technical work in shared residential spaces.

While some commenters found humour in her storytelling, others expressed concern about safety and urged residents to involve landlords or property managers when dealing with such situations.
