An abroad-based Nigerian woman, Lola, has sparked conversations online after recounting what she described as a food-related racist experience at her workplace.
According to Lola, the incident happened after she microwaved Jollof rice and goat meat during a break at work.
She said one of her Caucasian colleagues complimented the meal, describing its aroma as “divine.”
However, Lola claimed that the following day, management put up a notice instructing employees to use a different microwave for what it described as “ethnic food.”
Sharing her experience, she wrote:
“Like the day I microwaved jollof rice with goat meat and someone said, ‘Oh, that smells divine.’ Next day I saw a sign saying, ‘Please use downstairs microwave for ethnic food.'”
Her post has since gone viral, with many social media users debating whether the notice was discriminatory or simply a workplace policy, while others shared similar experiences they have encountered abroad.
