Man shares encounter with his friend’s ‘gentle’ girlfriend he always wished his own girlfriend was like

A Nigerian guy used social media to discuss how his own experience altered his perspective on relationships and public appearances.

The young man, who goes by ChrisBest Oguguo on X (previously Twitter), disclosed that he frequently expressed to his friend how much he loved his girlfriend, who consistently came across as calm, kind, and soft-spoken.

Every time he brought it up, his friend would simply chuckle and swiftly shift the subject.

He claims that one day while on a visit, his friend requested him to go within the compound, stand by the window, and refrain from pounding on the door. He obeyed the order while being perplexed.

He heard a woman yelling violently from inside the flat while he waited. It took him a while to realise that the voice belonged to the same “gentle” girlfriend he had admired.

Later, his friend clarified that when his girlfriend was upset, she had a whole different side and could get very hostile.

To support it, he even showed him text messages. As he thought back on the event, he cautioned against basing expectations on what others display in public.

Read his words below:

”Several years ago, l used to tell one of my friends how much I wished my girlfriend was like his. She was soft-spoken and looked gentle and seemed very polite.

Whenever I mentioned it to my friend, he would chuckle and change the subject almost immediately.

Then one day, I was going to visit him and when I got to his gate and called him, he didn’t answer.

He rather texted me to ask the gate man to let me in and then stand by his window and not to knock on the door.

I thought that was weird but…

When I entered the compound, I did what he requested and it was at that point that I started overhearing an angry female voice from his apartment.

Wetin dey happen, I asked myself.

It took me almost a minute to realise that was his girlfriend.

You needed to hear the words out of her mouth.

Damn!

Anyways, my guy came out, started narrating how his babe becomes a proper psycho once she gets upset and would say all sorts of nasty things.

This same innocent girl? I asked.

He chuckled again and started showing me text messages.

That was the day I stopped wishing for certain things.

Unfortunately, many young people today have built their marital/relationship expectations based on what they see on social media.

People show you what they want you to see in public. If you use that as a standard without properly knowing them, you may end up disappointed.”
