Texas mayor calls for cancellation of Kanye West concert over past antisemitic remarks

A Texas mayor has urged that Ye’s upcoming concert in her city be cancelled, citing his history of antisemitic statements.

Gina Ortiz Jones called for the July 4 performance at the Alamodome to be scrapped in a post shared on X.

> “I support canceling the @kanyewest concert,” Jones, 45, wrote Saturday on X. “Military City USA should not host someone with a record of hate speech and antisemitic comments in a city-funded facility like our Alamodome—not ever, and certainly not on July 4th, our Nation’s 250th birthday.

She further stated:

> “Standing up to antisemitism is exactly what it takes to achieve a more perfect Union.”

The planned performance at the Alamodome is the latest stop on the controversial artist’s tour to face opposition because of his past antisemitic conduct, which has included releasing a song titled Heil Hitler and promoting a swastika-themed T-shirt on his website.

Earlier in the tour, authorities in the United Kingdom barred West from entering the country over his previous comments. His visa was revoked in April after officials concluded that his presence would “not be conducive to the public good,” resulting in the cancellation of his planned appearance at the three-day Wireless Festival in London.

Swiss football club FC Basel also cancelled a concert scheduled for June, explaining that, after reviewing the arrangement, it could not provide a platform for the artist in line with the club’s values.

A planned performance in Chorzów, which would have marked his first concert in Poland in 15 years, was also called off after the venue announced in April that it would not proceed with the event due to “formal and legal reasons.”
