A Nigerian woman has generated intense debate online after releasing what she believes is a simple method for determining whether a man has money before going on a date with him.
In a viral video posted on X (previously Twitter) by @mazi_chinonso, the lady urged ladies to inform a man that their data subscription has expired and then see how he reacted.
She added that if a man subscribes for ₦10,000 or less, he is broke. Subscribing for ₦12,000 or more indicates he has sufficient funds.
Read what she said below:
“If you want to know if a man has money before going on a date with him, just act like your data has finished and ask him to subscribe for you. If he subs ₦10k or below, he doesn’t have money. But if he subs above ₦10k, hold him well, he has money.”
The comment swiftly spread on social media, eliciting diverse emotions, with many users questioning the logic of using data subscriptions as a metric of socioeconomic position.
Many reactions followed. One commentator wrote, “So data subscription is now a financial background check?” Another said, “This advice will make women lose good men.”
While some women believe the advise helps them avoid time-wasting activities, others say that financial responsibility cannot be judged by purchasing statistics.
