Hundreds of students of the Taraba State College of Nursing Science, Jalingo, have staged a peaceful protest following an overnight att@ck on one of the institution’s female hostels located outside the school premises.
The att@ckers reportedly invaded the hostel, allegedly r@ped a female student and inflicted injuries on her, including cutting one of her fingers.
The incident reportedly occurred in the early hours of Monday, September 11, 2026, when the hoodlums allegedly stormed the hostel and dispossessed students of their phones and other valuables.
The affected student was subsequently taken to GSCN Hospital in the Mile 6 area of Jalingo for medical treatment, according to sources.
A students’ union official, who spoke on condition of anonymity for fear of victimisation, said the incident was the second reported att@ck on students’ hostels within two weeks.
According to the official, another hostel was allegedly raided the previous week, with students losing phones and other valuables.> “Yesterday night, the hoodlums came in their numbers and attacked one of the female students’ hostels. They r@ped one of the students and also carted away phones belonging to the students and other valuables.”
He added:> “They also cut one of the fingers of the student after raping her. She is now on admission at a private hospital located at Mile 6 area in Jalingo,” he said.
Students demand improved security
The students’ protest reportedly followed concerns over the safety of students living in hostels located outside the institution’s premises.
The students’ union official said students had complained to the school authorities after the first att@ck, prompting the Commissioner for Tertiary Education to visit the college and promise improved security.
However, the latest incident has renewed concerns among students over the security situation around their accommodation and prompted them to demand stronger measures to protect students living outside the institution.
