The Super Falcons will enter the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) as Africa’s highest-ranked women’s national team after retaining their 36th position in the latest FIFA Women’s World Ranking.

The rankings, released on Thursday, saw the reigning WAFCON champions maintain their global standing while continuing to lead the continent. Despite securing consecutive friendly victories over Senegal earlier this month, the team did not move up in the rankings.

Nigeria defeated Senegal 2-1 on June 5 before recording a comfortable 3-0 victory in the second encounter three days later.

Among African nations, South Africa women’s national football team remain Nigeria’s closest challengers. The South Africans moved up one place to 57th in the world after a mixed international break, which included a 5-0 defeat to Japan followed by an impressive 1-0 win against the same opponents.

Ghana women’s national football team dropped one place to 60th globally but remain among Africa’s leading teams as they continue their quest for a first WAFCON title.

Hosts Morocco women’s national football team, runners-up at the previous tournament, also slipped in the rankings and are now 64th in the world.

Meanwhile, Zambia women’s national football team fell one spot to 65th despite earning a convincing 3-0 victory over Zimbabwe in their most recent match.

The next FIFA Women’s World Ranking is scheduled to be released on October 20, 2026.
