A Nigerian lady has advised married men to change the way they financially support their parents and siblings, urging them to involve their wives in the process.

In a video shared on X (formerly Twitter), the lady explained that allowing wives to send financial assistance to their husbands’ families could help foster stronger relationships and promote mutual respect between both sides.

She encouraged married men to stop sending money directly to their family members and instead transfer the funds to their wives, who would then make the payments on their behalf.

In her words:

“As a married man, stop sending money to your mother. Stop sending money to your father. Stop sending money to your siblings. If you want your family members to start loving and respecting your wife, start involving your wife in your relationship with your family members.”

The lady explained that some relatives may initially become suspicious of a woman who marries their son, particularly when she comes from a less privileged background.

According to her, such family members may wrongly assume that the woman intends to control or squander their son’s wealth. She therefore advised men to make their wives more involved in family matters to help change such perceptions.

She added:

“Don’t send the money directly to your mother. Send the money to your wife. Let your wife be the one to transfer the money to your family members. Let her name reflect on the credit alert they will receive.”

The advice has generated mixed reactions online. While some people agreed that involving wives in financial support for their in-laws could strengthen family relationships, others argued that married men should be free to decide how they support their parents and siblings without necessarily involving their wives in every financial transaction.
