A Nigerian woman has urged married men to involve their wives in the process of changing the way they provide for their parents and siblings.

She clarified that permitting wives to transfer money to their husbands’ relatives might strengthen the bond between the two parties in a video posted on X (previously Twitter).

She advised married men to send money to their wives, who would then handle the payments, rather than to their relatives directly.

“As a married man, stop sending money to your mother. Stop sending money to your father. Stop sending money to your siblings. If you want your family members to start loving and respecting your wife, start involving your wife in your relationship with your family members.”

The woman clarified that if a woman marries their son, some families might be wary of her, particularly if she comes from a lower-class family.

She claims that these relatives can mistakenly think that the woman intends to manage or waste their son’s money. To change this view, she suggested that men include their spouses more in household matters.

“Don’t send the money directly to your mother. Send the money to your wife. Let your wife be the one to transfer the money to your family members. Let her name reflect on the credit alert they will receive,” she added.

Online comments on the advice have been divided; some believe that include women in family support could improve relationships.

On the other hand, others contended that married men ought to be free to choose how to provide for their parents and siblings without necessarily involving their spouses in all financial dealings.
