“Some things I thought would end Davido’s career” — Asa Asika speaks on Davido’s resilience

Davido’s manager, Asa Asika, has spoken about the singer’s ability to bounce back from controversies, revealing that situations he believes could damage another artiste’s career often appear to have little lasting impact on Davido’s popularity.

Asika made the remarks while reflecting on his experience working with the award-winning Nigerian musician, noting that Davido continues to enjoy widespread public acceptance even after controversies that leave his team wondering how he will recover.

Asa Asika speaks on Davido’s ability to bounce back

According to Asika, there have been moments when he feared that certain incidents involving Davido could seriously affect the singer’s career.

He explained that, despite his concerns, the public often appears to move on quickly, with Davido continuing to receive support from his fans.

“There are some things I’ve seen David do, I’m like, someone else did this. They will never ever get back from this. Sometimes I’m like, yeah, it’s over,” Asika said.

He added that there are moments when he and the team wonder how they will manage the aftermath of a controversy, only to find that the singer remains widely loved.

“I don’t know how we’re going to bounce back from this. Everybody wakes up tomorrow morning and they’re like, yeah, nothing happened. He’s loved,” he said.

Manager describes Davido as a ‘walking billboard’

Beyond the singer’s ability to recover from controversies, Asika highlighted Davido’s commercial appeal, describing him as a “walking billboard” because of the interest brands have in associating with him.

He revealed that some companies approach him with requests for Davido to hold their products briefly or feature them in his music videos.

Asika said:

“Yeah. So I said, David’s a walking billboard. I have emails from brands being like, I just want David to like, hold this bottle for like 20 minutes or put in his video.”

He further disclosed that the team has not always needed to pay for music videos from its own funds, suggesting that brand interest creates commercial opportunities around the singer’s projects.

“Like I haven’t paid for music videos with our own money,” he added.

Asika’s comments highlight Davido’s continued appeal to fans and brands, as well as the commercial opportunities that come with his visibility in the Nigerian and international music industries.
