Fresh facts have emerged regarding the final moments of Nigerian gospel artist Bunmi Akinnaanu, also known as Omije Ojumi, who died on Monday, January 12, 2026, in a Lagos hospital. Lanre Alewilese, a close friend and colleague of the late singer, provided an emotional account of her final moments.
He testified that in the weeks preceding her death, Omije Ojumi was unable to open her eyes or talk, emphasising the gravity of her illness.
Alewilese claimed that he purposefully suppressed information about her poor condition to spare followers from undue stress.
He added that seeing the singer’s situation was terrible, and that providing updates would have provided no hope.

“…In the final weeks leading up to Omije Ojumi’s death, she was unable to open her eyes or speak for weeks. I intentionally kept her condition a secret from the public because there was no positive update. I didn’t want to worry anyone unnecessarily. She was struggling, and it was heartbreaking to see her like that…”
The 46-year-old gospel singer had been praying to God for help with her illness for months.
A viral video of her in prayer, pleading for recovery, generated widespread anxiety among fans and supporters.
