Napoli finished 2025 on a high note, defeating Cremonese 2-0 away, with Rasmus Hojlund scoring a superb brace to secure all three points in the Serie A match.
The result was a timely response after Napoli briefly lost first place to Udinese, consolidating on their Supercoppa Italiana victory in Riyadh despite a largely rotated squad.
Despite the absence of several key players, Napoli made an early impression.
Filippo Terracciano tested Vanja Milinković-Savić from range, but the breakthrough came when Leonardo Spinazzola’s long-range effort deflected, allowing Hojlund to react and finish from close range.
Cremonese showed some promise, particularly when Matteo Bianchetti volleyed over unmarked from a set-piece and Rasmus Hojlund was denied a second by Emil Audero in a one-on-one situation.
Napoli sustained pressure and scored again just before halftime.
Alessio Zerbin’s errant interception fell sweetly, allowing Matteo Politano to cross for Hojlund, who scored from six yards out to double the lead.
The Dane’s rising confidence was clear, as he had already eclipsed his Serie A goal tally for the previous season.
After the break, Hojlund continued to threaten, hitting the side-netting and nearly providing for David Neres.
Despite late efforts from Scott McTominay and Warren Bondo, Napoli maintained their defensive composure and limited Cremonese to half-chances.
Audero was kept busy, particularly when denying McTominay from distance, but Napoli’s structure held fast until stoppage time.
The victory boosts Napoli’s title chances heading into the new year, while the Cremonese continue to look for consistency as they prepare for the new year.
