At the age of 85, veteran Nollywood actor Davis Ofor passed away. He is most known for his role as Clarus in the classic sitcom New Masquerade from the 1980s.

Nigeria’s entertainment industry was devastated to learn of his passing on Tuesday.

Tony Akposheri, a fellow actor, expressed profound grief over the demise of a long-time friend on Instagram, confirming the terrible development.

Akposheri disclosed that he had just spent time with Ofor over the New Year, remembering times of joy and optimistic discussions about the future.

“Today, my heart is heavy. Davis Ofor, fondly known as Clarus from New Masquerade, is gone,” he wrote.

“We crossed into the New Year together, laughing, talking, sharing memories, and speaking hopefully about the days ahead. None of us knew that time was already counting differently for you.”

In a heartfelt tribute, he described the late actor as more than just a popular face on television. “You were more than a familiar face on screen.

You were a friend, a brother, a man with warmth, humour, and a presence that could light up any space. Rest well, my friend. You came, you gave joy, you made your mark, and you will never be forgotten.”

One of Nigeria’s most popular comedies, New Masquerade, which broadcast on the Nigerian Television Authority in the 1980s, made Davis Ofor a household name.

His humorous and unique portrayal of Clarus won him a place in fans’ hearts.

His act continues to serve as a model for future generations of performers and contributed to the development of early Nigerian television comedy.

The cause of his death has not yet been disclosed to the public as of this report.
