“Policy is policy!” — Woman gets fired for skipping office work to attend husband’s funeral without approval

A woman has stirred significant indignation online after alleging she was fired by her employer the day after her husband’s burial.

In a now-viral video, the very sad woman explained that she had a breakdown at work after her husband’s death and was forced to leave. She explained that she only left work for one day to attend his funeral.

According to her, she was later informed that her employment had been terminated due to her unauthorised absence. She claimed the firm insisted that “policy is policy” and made no exceptions, citing her status as a contract or temporary worker.

My husband just died. I had to bury him,” she said in the clip, struggling to hold back tears.

The video sparked a massive response on social media, with many individuals condemning the employer of cruelty and a lack of fundamental human sensitivity.

Several readers, including HR specialists, have recommended the woman to seek legal counsel, implying that the issue could constitute wrongful termination depending on the applicable labour regulations.

The episode has sparked debate on bereavement leave, workers’ rights, and whether businesses should be legally obligated to exhibit sympathy during times of personal tragedy.
