Victor Osimhen scored his 200th professional goal on Sunday, as Galatasaray defeated Kayserispor 4-0 in the Turkish Super Lig.
The Nigeria international also contributed to Galatasaray’s strong performance, which expanded their lead and highlighted their title credentials midway through the season.
Osimhen’s goal brought him to 165 goals at club level and 35 for the Super Eagles, cementing his place among the most productive attackers of his generation.
The 25-year-old has 14 goals in 20 appearances across all competitions this season, and he extended his recent scoring streak by scoring in Galatasaray’s previous league win over Karagümrük.
His historic goal came in the 26th minute, after he earned a penalty himself. Osimhen went up and comfortably scored from the spot, doubling Galatasaray’s early advantage.
The hosts took the lead after just seven minutes, as Kayserispor defender Aaron Opoku put the ball into his own net while attempting to clear a dangerous cross.
Galatasaray maintained control throughout the game and effectively ended it on the hour mark with a swift counterattack.
A long pass put Osimhen in space, and the striker maintained his calm to square the ball for Gabriel Sara, who converted first time from the edge of the area to make it 3-0.
With the result already decided, Galatasaray was granted a second penalty late in the game. This time, Mauro Icardi scored to seal a comfortable victory.
The result retains Galatasaray at the top of the Super Lig standings with 49 points, giving them a six-point lead over Fenerbahçe, who have a game in hand.
Kayserispor remains in difficulty at the other end of the table, lying 17th with 15 points and firmly in the relegation zone.
Galatasaray will host Istanbulspor in the Turkish Cup on Wednesday, while Kayserispor will face Kocaelispor in league action next Monday.
