Victor Osimhen has revealed that he was close to joining Juventus before completing a permanent move to Galatasaray ahead of their UEFA Champions League knockout phase play-off meeting.

Speaking to Gazzetta dello Sport ahead of the first leg in Istanbul, the Nigeria international revealed that Juventus made an offer during his time at Napoli.

“I could have joined Juventus, yes. Juve wanted to sign me but Napoli president De Laurentiis didn’t want to sell me to Juventus,” Osimhen said. “For sure, Juventus are a top club. When Juventus call you, you listen.”

Osimhen joined Galatasaray permanently last summer after a successful loan spell. He has maintained his scoring form, with 15 goals and three assists in 22 games this season.

His influence has stretched to Europe. The 27-year-old has six Champions League goals in six games and is on track to break the club’s single-season scoring record of eight.

“I am at a club and city I absolutely love. I’ve been lucky to find Galatasaray on my way. There’s nothing similar to Gala and the love from the fans,” he added.

In his debut season, Osimhen assisted Galatasaray in winning the Turkish Cup and Turkish Super Lig. Now, the focus is on European aspirations.

“We did great in Turkey. Now it’s time to show our quality in Europe,” he said.

In the first match, Galatasaray hosts Juventus at RAMS Park; the second game is set for Turin the following week.

With a spot in the round of 16 on the line, the match gives Osimhen an instant chance to play the team he previously came close to joining.
