No kneeling to give wine or paying of bride price, - Newly married Nigerian doctor writes about her non-negotiables in marriage

Chioma Adanne, a newly married Nigerian medical doctor based in the UK, has revealed her marriage’s non-negotiables, which include equality, independence, mutual respect, and fidelity.

Chioma, who married Chris last month, revealed that she did not receive a bride price and did not kneel to give palm wine to her husband during their traditional wedding.

The doctor went on to say that her husband understands that every human being has equal rights, and that any man who believes he is the head/leader simply because of a p3nis suffers from a psychological condition known as delusion of grandeur.

According to her, housework is either done by both of them or outsourced.

Continuing, she said husband said that the number of children they would have is her decision and the kids will bear both their names.

Read her full post below:

1: No bride price was paid on my head.

2. If we will ever have children, they will bear both my name and Chris.

3. Adding my partner/husband’s surname to my name is solely my choice. I will add it if I want, I won’t if I don’t. My whole name will remain intact.

4. My husband/partner already said that the number of children we would birth will be my decision, as any man should.

5. Other than carrying the pregnancy to term there is no other responsibility he won’t carry out e.g bathing the kids, feeding them, changing diapers etc.

6. I made sure I married someone who has enough sense to understand that every human on this earth has equal rights. We make all the decisions together. We table it, discuss it, then either meet up in the middle or we go with the superior idea.

7. I did not marry someone with a mental health problem. Any man who thinks that they are head/leader just because of a penis has a psychological issue called delusion of grandeur. I married an adult, a partner, an equal.

8. I had a court wedding and a traditional wedding I picked. No kneeling to give wine or paying of bride price.

9. There is definitely no room for cheating, as I’ve made it known, cheating is my deal breaker.

10. House chores are done by both of us or we outsource.

11. I am not doing 50:50 either. We all put in according to what we can.
