According to a report by The Punch on Monday, August 3 2026, renowned television host Frank Edoho has finally set the record straight regarding his departure from the popular game show Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, dismissing long-standing rumors that he was sacked from the program.

Speaking on an episode of The KK Show, Edoho clarified that the show’s sudden hiatus occurred after its primary sponsor of ten years withdrew financial backing due to heavy regulatory penalties imposed by the Federal Government.

Reflecting on the unexpected setback, Edoho explained: “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? sort of came to an end when our sponsor withdrew. I think the Federal Government fined them based on some industry.

I think it was just like a punitive measure for one corporate thing that happened. So they said, ‘Hey guys, we can’t do this anymore based on the fact that we have to pay an incredible sum of money back to the Federal Government.’

Edoho revealed that when alternative sponsors expressed interest in reviving the show, he entered negotiations seeking an executive producer role, believing his 13-year track record made him a crucial asset. However, contract talks stalled over creative and financial differences.

When the show eventually relaunched under new sponsorship without him, media outlets falsely reported that producers had dropped him.

Addressing the unfair media portrayal, Edoho expressed feeling betrayed: “So they announced that I was dropped from the show, which was false then. I felt I was thrown under the bus after all the years I put in.”

Having hosted the iconic show from 2004 until his resignation in September 2017, Edoho eventually reunited with the franchise in 2022 following a five-year hiatus.
