Tochukwu Nnadi, a Super Eagles midfielder, is on the verge of joining Ligue 1 side Marseille from Belgian club Zulte Waregem, after the two clubs agreed on a €6 million transfer fee.
According to Belgian writer Sacha Tavolieri, the transaction has been concluded at the club level, and the 22-year-old is already in France for medical checks.
Once the medical procedure is complete, an official notification will be made.
Nnadi landed in Marseille earlier on Monday and expressed his eagerness to start a new chapter in French football.
The midfielder spoke briefly after landing, outlining his mindset for the transfer.
“I’m happy to be here. It’s my first day in France. I’m here to play football, to fight for the team. This is my ambition here,” Nnadi told La Minute OM.
Nnadi joined Zulte Waregem in January 2024, originally playing in Belgium’s second tier.
He soon established himself as a vital figure as the club campaigned for promotion, and his influence helped them return to the top flight.
This season, the midfielder has made 19 appearances in all competitions, contributing one assist and remaining a steady member of the squad.
His performances sparked international interest, with Marseille moving quickly to recruit him. Nnadi’s development has also extended to the international level.
Head coach Eric Chelle included him to Nigeria’s final roster for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, where the Super Eagles finished third.
The midfielder competed in the group stage, getting vital tournament experience.
Prior to his senior debut, Nnadi represented Nigeria at the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup, highlighting his rise through the national team ranks.
The Owerri-born midfielder began his career with Campos FC before relocating to Dubai in 2019 to train with Madenat Alamal Football Academy.
In 2021, he joined Bulgarian side Botev Plovdiv, where he spent more than two years before joining Zulte Waregem.
With a €6 million transfer to Marseille on the horizon, Nnadi is ready to put himself to the test at a higher level, a move that might boost both his club career and his status within the Super Eagles squad.
