According to reality TV personality Tersee Waya, sometimes known as Kiddwaya, Nigeria might have advanced more if British colonial control had lasted an additional ten to fifteen years.
In a recent social media post, Kiddwaya asserted that Nigeria’s independence in 1960 might have been premature.
Nigeria broke its remaining constitutional connections to the British Crown in 1963 after gaining independence from Britain in 1960.
He said …
“Unpopular opinion. The British should have stayed in Nigeria for 10/15 more years. You go see better development.”
On the internet, his stance elicited conflicting responses. A longer transition phase, according to some Nigerians, may have given the nation more time to fortify its institutions and get its leaders ready for self-government.
Others disagreed, arguing that rather than putting Nigeria’s development first, colonial control would have likely prolonged resource exploitation.
