Following the tragic death of fast-rising singer Ifunanya Nwangene, better known by her stage name Nanyah, from a snakebite, her father has finally spoken out.
In a tearful interview, he talked about her last hours and the hurtful things she said to him just before she died.
According to reports, Nanyah, 26, passed away after being bitten by a snake at her home. Reports state that the incident occurred while she was asleep.
She immediately went to the doctor and was brought to several hospitals. Unfortunately, she died in spite of efforts to save her.
Her unexpected passing has provoked online responses, with many Nigerians expressing sorrow and voicing worries about their ability to receive emergency medical care.
Christopher Nwangene, Nanyah’s father, described the tragic day’s events in an interview with BBC Igbo.
He claimed that at approximately 9:15 a.m., his daughter called to let him know that she had been bitten by a snake.
He was in a panic after hearing the startling news. “I asked her right away where she was and what the doctors were saying about her condition,” he claims.
The distraught father clarified that when Nanyah initially went to the hospital, she was allegedly informed that there was no anti-venom for snakebite.
She reportedly received the same result when she visited a second hospital.
She didn’t take an Uber to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) until someone suggested that she do so.
She allegedly received assurances that anti-venom was available at FMC.
According to Christopher Nwangene, he immediately called his brother and requested that he head straight to the hospital.
According to reports, Nanyah was sitting with a drip on her hand when his brother got there.
According to the father, he kept in touch by phone while things at the hospital progressed.
A few minutes later, he called her again. During that call, Nanyah reportedly told him, “Daddy, I cannot breathe.”
Alarmed, he asked her what was happening.
She replied, “I don’t know.”
He claimed that those were his daughter’s final words before she passed away.
