“My husband and I had been together for 11 years. He died on a Tuesday morning, and by Thursday evening, members of his family had already arrived at our compound to take over”  – Window cries out

A young widow has shared her painful experience, alleging that members of her late husband’s family began making claims to his properties just two days after his d3ath.

According to her, she and her husband had been together for 11 years before he passed away on a Tuesday morning.

She said that by Thursday evening, some of his relatives had arrived at their home, not to mourn with the family or comfort her and their daughters, but to discuss the distribution of his assets.

The widow claimed that her husband’s younger brother, identified as Emmanuel, walked around the property making notes and discussing her late husband’s investments as though they already belonged to the family.

According to her, he insisted that because she had no male child, all of her husband’s properties should revert to the family, leaving her and her daughters with nothing.

Recalling the encounter, she said:

“I simply looked at him and said, ‘Emmanuel, get out of my compound right now.’

He laughed in my face. As he walked toward the gate, he turned and said, ‘Don’t make this harder than it needs to be. You are just a woman. You need to start thinking about your daughters from now on.’

I looked at him and replied, ‘Oh yes, I am thinking about my daughters. And that is exactly why I am not moving an inch.’”

The widow said she refused to be intimidated despite her grief, adding that those who expected her sorrow to weaken her underestimated her strength.

“They thought grief had broken me. They thought sorrow had weakened me. But they forgot that the woman who held this family together for 11 years was still standing. And that woman is me.”
