“My husband advised me to keep my maiden name” — Bovi’s wife, Kris Asimonye says

Nigerian comedian Bovi Ugboma’s wife, Kris Asimonye, has explained why she decided against taking her husband’s last name after marriage, saying she did so on his recommendation.

Asimonye said in a thoughtful Instagram post that the discussion occurred early in their marriage, however its importance eventually became apparent.

Although she originally found it difficult to comprehend the reasoning behind the idea, she claims that it came straight from her spouse.

When I got married, my husband encouraged me not to change my last name. At the time I did not fully understand why,” she wrote.

The choice was made by the couple, who have three children together, long before married women’s name retention became a topic of public concern.

Asimonye said that her maiden name has become essential to who she is, explaining that clarity came when she started to establish herself professionally.

Now, building Kris Asimonye as a brand, I understand completely,” she added.

She claimed that continuing to use her last name has allowed her to remain consistent in both her personal and professional endeavours, especially as her public profile continues to expand.

Online discussions regarding marriage, identity, and personal preference have been triggered by the news, and many people have praised the couple’s support and understanding of one another.

Asimonye did not provide any other information regarding the conversation, but her remarks have contributed to the expanding conversation over women keeping their names after marriage, particularly in professional settings.
