Music executive Ubi Franklin has publicly criticised actor-turned-politician Desmond Elliot over his decision to contest the All Progressives Congress House of Assembly primary in Lagos despite reportedly facing opposition from political leaders within the party.

Desmond Elliot, who was seeking a fourth term representing Surulere Constituency II in the Lagos State House of Assembly, was said to have ignored calls from party leaders, including Femi Gbajabiamila, to step down for the party’s preferred candidate, Barakat Bakare.

Reports claimed that Elliot continued with his ambition but later withdrew from the race after allegations that his supporters were locked out of the primary venue and prevented from voting.

Reacting on X, Ubi Franklin argued that Elliot owed his previous electoral victories largely to the support of his political godfather and should have stepped aside when requested to do so. He further suggested that the actor-turned-lawmaker could have avoided public embarrassment by withdrawing earlier.

After an X user described his opinion as “a very unintelligent writeup,” Franklin maintained his stance, insisting that Elliot brought the humiliation upon himself by refusing to bow out gracefully.
