The DNA lawsuit concerning late musician llerioluwa Aloba, also known as Mohbad, has sparked further controversy after two of the three court-approved laboratories apparently declined to complete the test.
Oladayo Ogungbe, the Aloba family’s lawyer, revealed that the labs stated they do not undertake post-mortem DNA testing on embalmed bodies.
Because Mohbad’s remains were embalmed following his death in September 2023, testing would necessitate extracting DNA from tissue samples, something they are not prepared to handle.
“It is incorrect and misleading to claim Mohbad’s father deliberately picked incompetent labs. Two labs confirmed they lack the capacity for this specialised testing,” Ogungbe stated.
The DNA test, ordered on February 24, 2026, by Magistrate B.A. Sonuga at Ikorodu Magistrate Court, is intended to determine the paternity of Mohbad and his putative son Liam.
The three labs involved were DNA Diagnostics Centre (offered by the applicant), Alpha Bio Labs (submitted by Mohbad’s wife, Wunmi Aloba), and Advanced Histopathology Laboratory Limited (approved by the court).
The case remains unresolved as the family and courts search for a lab capable of performing the specific testing required for Mohbad’s post-mortem DNA analysis.
