A Nigerian man has sought public opinion after allegedly discovering that his friend had not released a ₦2 million donation he contributed towards the burial arrangements for the friend’s late father.
The man, identified on X (formerly Twitter) as @silverpennydr, shared his experience while explaining how he decided to support his friend’s family during their period of bereavement.
According to his account, he made the financial contribution during a conference call involving his friend and two of the deceased’s other sons before transferring the money.
However, his concerns reportedly began when he later contacted his friend to make enquiries about the burial preparations and discovered that the donated funds had allegedly not been disbursed.
Feeling disappointed by the development, he said he considered requesting a refund but was discouraged by his wife, who believed he should not take back the money.
Uncertain about the appropriate response, he turned to social media to ask whether he should demand his contribution back or allow the matter to go.
His post attracted different opinions, with several users advising him to overlook the situation, while others expressed disappointment over the alleged handling of the financial support.
Reacting to the development, an X user identified as Ishola argued that the money might be needed for other burial-related expenses, advising the donor to consider the support he had already extended to the family.
Another commenter, Empress Tee, also encouraged him to let the matter go, suggesting that he had fulfilled his responsibility by offering financial assistance.
Similarly, Blessing Joy advised him against requesting a refund, describing the situation as an opportunity to disregard the perceived selfishness of others.
Tope also shared the same position, maintaining that the donor had done his part and should move on.
The discussion has generated conversations about trust, financial assistance and the expectations that sometimes accompany monetary contributions to friends and family during difficult times.
