A 40-year-old man has reportedly d!ed after the gravestone he was sitting on collapsed, causing him to fall into his father’s grave at a cemetery in Brazil.

The tragic incident occurred when the man visited his father’s burial site before attending the funeral of a friend who had d!ed in a road accident the previous day.

According to reports, the man sat on top of his father’s headstone, but the structure unexpectedly gave way, sending him into the grave beneath it.

Other people at the cemetery reportedly rushed to help after hearing a loud noise. Upon discovering what had happened, they called emergency services, but the man was pronounced d3ad at the scene.

The incident took place shortly after 2:30 p.m. at São José Municipal Cemetery in Linhares, located in the northern part of Brazil’s Espírito Santo state, approximately 400 miles north of Rio de Janeiro.

The victim, whose identity had not been publicly disclosed at the time of the report, was said to be locally known as the husband of a worker employed by the Linhares municipal council.

Gravedigger Nazaré Bravin reportedly recounted that the man arrived at the cemetery, asked about the location of his friend’s burial, parked his motorcycle and proceeded to the area where his father was buried.

The circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation as authorities work to establish exactly how the fatal accident occurred.
