According to Jerusalem post, French President Emmanuel Macron has criticized Iran’s latest military strikes, describing them as a violation of the memorandum of understanding (MoU) reached with the United States. Despite the renewed violence, he stressed that diplomatic efforts to restore a ceasefire and prevent a wider conflict in the Middle East would continue.
Macron made the remarks on Wednesday after US President Donald Trump declared that the interim agreement aimed at ending hostilities between Washington and Tehran had effectively collapsed.
Speaking to reporters, Macron said Iran’s recent actions had breached the commitments outlined in the agreement with the United States. However, he emphasized that dialogue remains the best option for reducing tensions and preventing further escalation.
He urged all parties involved to exercise restraint, warning that continued military confrontations could threaten regional stability and have wider consequences for global security.
The French leader also revealed that France is working closely with its European allies and partners in the Middle East to encourage renewed negotiations. According to him, Paris remains committed to reopening diplomatic channels despite the worsening security situation.
The latest developments follow Iranian strikes launched in response to recent US military operations targeting Iranian military facilities. The exchange of attacks has raised fears that the conflict could spread across the Gulf region and draw in more countries.
Earlier, President Trump stated that the temporary ceasefire framework was no longer in effect, casting doubt on the future of diplomatic engagement between the two countries.
Despite the setback, Macron maintained that military action alone cannot deliver lasting peace. He reiterated France’s longstanding position that negotiations and diplomacy remain the most effective path to resolving the crisis.
