A lady has caused heated controversy online after disclosing why she called off her wedding just days after meeting her fiancé’s family for a formal introduction.

In a popular personal essay, she described how a single night in her partner’s family home transformed her perspective on marriage and safety.

According to the woman, everything seemed calm when her fiancé took her to meet his family members.

However, later that night, she began to hear strange sounds coming from inside the house. She quickly discovered the noise came from her fiancé’s father savagely abusing his wife.

She claimed that the attacker beat the woman and tore her clothes throughout the incident.

The family reportedly has five children, two married girls and three sons.

Surprisingly, neither of the sons, including her fiancé, intervened during the assault. She claimed they acted as if nothing important was happening.

Disturbed by the situation, the woman expressed her want to intervene and assist the battered woman.

Her fiancé allegedly stopped her and told her not to intervene. He reportedly said his mother was stubborn and exaggerated problems.

The situation became worse when the mistreated woman was forced to sleep outside that night.

The family apparently dismissed the incident as regular behaviour. At that point, the woman stated that she saw her future in such a place.

She concluded that a guy who condones abuse of his mother could do worse to his wife.

By dawn, she had chosen to leave the residence and return home.

She requested that her fiancé not visit her family again. She declared the engagement over, saying she was glad of choosing her safety and peace.

Her story has elicited conflicting emotions online, with many admiring her bravery. Others questioned whether cancelling the wedding was the correct decision.
