Singer Jason Derulo has faced criticism online after a video showed a shark and a manta ray being kept in a floor aquarium inside his home in Tarzana, California.
The footage, which emerged during a house tour with streamer N3on, sparked debate on social media, with many users questioning whether the marine animals had adequate space and a suitable living environment.
Several commenters on Reddit described the setup as cruel, arguing that the aquarium appeared too small for the animals. Others claimed the tank lacked features that would replicate a natural habitat.
One critic said there was “absolutely no reason” for the display and accused celebrities of treating animals as decorative attractions, while another argued that keeping sharks and rays in such conditions should be prohibited.
Other users pointed to the bright lighting, noise levels, and lack of hiding spaces, suggesting the animals could be experiencing unnecessary stress.
Some commenters also argued that a similar visual effect could have been achieved using robotic or digital displays instead of live animals.
As of the time of the reports, Jason Derulo had not publicly responded to the criticism, although media outlets said his representatives had been contacted for comment.
