Iran has reportedly presented a new diplomatic initiative aimed at resolving its long-standing disputes with the United States within a 30-day period, in what officials describe as an effort to move beyond the current ceasefire and bring an end to hostilities.
According to a report by Al Jazeera on Sunday, May 3, 2026, the proposal contains a 14-point framework that responds to an earlier American plan consisting of nine points. Iranian officials have positioned the document as a comprehensive roadmap intended to address both political and military dimensions of the crisis.
The proposal, as outlined by the semiofficial Nour News agency, includes several major conditions. These reportedly involve the removal of U.S. sanctions on Iran, an end to naval restrictions affecting Iranian maritime activity, and the withdrawal of American military forces from the region. It also calls for a complete cessation of military operations, including Israel’s ongoing campaign in Lebanon, which Tehran considers part of the broader regional conflict.
The exchange of proposals comes amid continued but cautious diplomatic engagement between Tehran and Washington. While tensions remain high, indirect communication channels have reportedly remained active, indicating that both sides have not fully abandoned the possibility of a negotiated settlement.
The diplomatic momentum follows a period of sustained confrontation, although a ceasefire in the region has held for approximately three weeks. Despite its relative stability, analysts continue to describe the situation as fragile due to unresolved political and military disputes.
Tensions were further underscored last week when U.S. President Donald Trump rejected a previous Iranian proposal, signaling that significant gaps remain between the two sides on key issues. Even so, diplomatic efforts have continued through intermediaries, suggesting that discussions have not completely broken down.
In related developments, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi held talks with Oman’s Foreign Minister Badr al-Busaidi as part of ongoing regional diplomatic engagement. Oman has historically played a mediating role between Iran and the United States, often facilitating indirect negotiations during periods of heightened tension.
