Riley Moore, a congressman from the United States, has reaffirmed his demand that Nigeria’s police force be decentralized and that state governments be given more authority over local security.
In a post on X, Moore called on the federal government to step up efforts to protect citizens, especially in the Middle Belt, where extremist groups have frequently attacked local communities.
With an emphasis on the persecution of Christians and the emergence of extremism, the lawmaker has actively participated in drawing attention to security issues in Nigeria. His stance is consistent with Donald Trump’s policy approach.
As part of his engagement, Moore led a bipartisan congressional delegation to Nigeria to assess the situation on the ground. The delegation met with victims, religious leaders, and senior government officials.
He has also advocated for Nigeria’s reinstatement as a Country of Particular Concern over alleged widespread religious persecution, a designation introduced under the Trump administration.
