A Nigerian woman has sparked new discussions on the internet after acknowledging that she once counselled a friend to break up with a “broke” lover who ended up becoming her husband.

Users questioning loyalty, patience, and financial security in relationships have responded to the narrative that was posted on X, formerly known as Twitter.

The woman wrote in her essay about their time in college, when her friend’s family was struggling financially.

It was her understanding that the friend’s boyfriend was not financially stable and could only provide “what he could.”

She acknowledged that the lack of support “is nothing to write home about,” which at the time caused them great concern.

Other men reportedly showed interest in her friend, but she turned them down. “She was loyal and hopeful with her boyfriend,” the lady wrote.

The narrator acknowledged that she and another friend made every effort to persuade her to go.

“There’s nothing we didn’t say 🤣 to convince her to leave her broke bf,” she stated.

Their friend remained faithful till graduation in spite of the pressure to break the relationship.

The same couple is now married and leading a comfortable life years after graduating from school.

The woman disclosed that her acquaintance, who had previously struggled, now resides in her own home with her spouse and has a car.

In stark contrast to their time as students, she said they were “very comfortable.” She was particularly startled by a recent gesture.

On her last birthday, the married friend reportedly sent her a large sum of money. “A sum I can’t afford to gift a person,” she admitted.

Despite their distance from one another, she added, her friend also helped her business. She felt embarrassed about the advise she had previously given as a result of the gesture.

“I’m still ashamed of myself and the advice we gave her. I’m glad she did not listen to us,” she wrote.

The post concluded with some thought. The narrator revealed that she is still single, as is the other buddy who pushed for the breakup.

“Guess who is still unmarried and yet to find their balance in life? Both of us who advised her,” she concluded.
