“I’m so miserable, i regret my marriage decisions”— Man laments

A man has gained attention online after voicing frustration about his marriage, claiming his wife has stopped contributing to household cleanliness less than a year after they got married.

He alleged that he has been left to handle most of the domestic chores on top of his job responsibilities while also helping care for their three-month-old baby, describing the situation as overwhelming.

Strain behind closed doors

He said:

I am very sad. My wife doesn’t clean the house, so I usually do it. I went away for just two days and came back to a messy house. She didn’t know I was coming home today. This marriage isn’t even up to a year but I’m already stressed out.”

Regret over past relationship choice

He added:

“I broke up with my girlfriend because I wanted a serious relationship and didn’t think of marrying her because she was not educated. I thought education was important, but now I realize I was wrong. She was an amazing person. I regret my decision every day.”

The story has since triggered mixed reactions on social media, with some users sympathising with him while others suggest the issue may stem more from unmet expectations and poor communication between the couple rather than personality or education differences.

In a related context, a 2024 Nigerian relationship wellbeing survey by a youth-focused research group found that over half of married respondents identified disagreements over household duties as a major source of marital conflict.
