According to a report by PUNCH on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, a 68-year-old British woman, Dawn Ottewell, has spoken about her troubled marriage to her Nigerian husband, Bright Emokpae, 31, whom she said she is currently struggling to locate.

Ottewell, who is from Dewsbury, West Yorkshire, told the UK-based newspaper, The Sun, that she wants to end her marriage to Emokpae after accusing him of leaving their home and cutting off communication with her on social media.

The couple, who have a 37-year age difference, reportedly met through dating apps in 2021. Their relationship later progressed, and they got married at a registry office in Nicosia, Cyprus, on March 22, 2022.

However, Ottewell’s account suggests that their relationship has since deteriorated, with the British woman claiming that her husband is no longer living with her and has made efforts to distance himself from her.

According to The Sun’s report on Monday, Ottewell alleged that Emokpae initially presented himself differently when they first met. She said he introduced himself as a professional in his 30s named Brian Thomas before eventually revealing that he was actually a fashion student in his mid-20s from Benin City, Nigeria.

The British woman further claimed that she believes Emokpae may currently be in Scotland. According to her, he may have started an online clothing business there, although she said she has been unable to establish his exact whereabouts.

Ottewell also questioned the sincerity of her husband’s feelings and suggested that his motivation for marrying her may have been connected to his desire to relocate to the United Kingdom.

“I’m convinced he was never in love with me and just wanted a visa to move to England,” Ottewell said.

She further alleged that Emokpae’s immigration status has become an obstacle to ending their marriage, claiming that he is unwilling to agree to a divorce because of the benefits associated with his visa.

“And it’s because of his cherished spouse visa that he won’t agree to a divorce.”

The allegations have left Ottewell seeking answers about the breakdown of their relationship and the whereabouts of her husband. Her account also highlights the complicated circumstances surrounding their marriage, particularly the significant age difference and the immigration issues she says have emerged since their separation.

However, the claims remain allegations made by Ottewell, and Emokpae’s response to the accusations was not included in the report.
