“I’m about to announce my residency” — Davido

Afrobeats musician David Adeleke, better known by his stage name Davido, has announced intentions to perform a residency in Lagos in December. He claims that Bad Bunny’s popular concert series in his native Puerto Rico served as inspiration.

In a widely shared video, the singer made the news and counselled up-and-coming musicians to stick with the groups that helped them become well-known.

Long-term success, in his opinion, depends on keeping a close relationship with one’s roots.

Davido used Bad Bunny’s recent tour format, which brought fans from all over the world to Puerto Rico rather than transporting the shows to other places, to explain the concept behind the proposed residency.

He said: “Bad Bunny just did a tour. All the shows were in one place. It was in PR, Puerto Rico.

People were flying in from LA, from Atlanta, from London, from Asia. He made a statement with that. He said, yeah, you gotta come to see me.

Yes, that’s why I’m about to announce my residency too. In Lagos, yes, December. Doing the same thing Bad Bunny did.”

Fans are excited about the announcement, and many anticipate that the residency would draw music enthusiasts from Nigeria and elsewhere during the holiday season. The past

In addition to announcing the residence, Davido took advantage of the occasion to urge upcoming musicians to stick with the locations and people that helped them early in their careers.

He emphasised that following success, artists shouldn’t move quickly or cut themselves off from their home base.

He said: “People come. To all the young artists too, like coming out, like don’t rush to leave your vicinity that helped you grow. Hold that place where? When you hold that place there, wherever God takes you outside, go.

Because what seems to happen is that they rush out and then when you want to run back, it’s too late.”
