Just two weeks after completing his loan move from Chelsea, Aston Villa winger Alejandro Garnacho was pulled off due to a facial injury during his team’s preseason friendly against Thai club BG Pathum United, prompting further questions about his fitness.

After a severe challenge, the Argentina international needed medical attention, hence he was unable to complete the first half of the game.

As Villa proceeded to get ready for the upcoming Premier League season, he was eventually replaced with a bloodied mouth.

Garnacho, who joined Aston Villa on a season-long loan, is hoping to resurrect his career, thus the injury comes at a terrible moment.

Ryan Edwards, a midfielder for BG Pathum, blocked Garnacho during an offensive move, resulting in the 22-year-old requiring extensive on-field treatment.

Due to the facial injuries, Villa’s medical team chose to pull him before halftime, despite his first attempts to play.

By then, Villa had already grabbed command of the game, with goals from Emiliano Buendía and Victor Lindelöf giving Unai Emery’s team a commanding lead prior to halftime.

Before the hosts scored a late consolation goal in a 3-1 loss, Boubacar Kamara added a third goal in the second half.

During the game, Villa’s coaching staff was concerned about more players than just Garnacho. Emery decided not to take any chances, therefore midfielder John McGinn was also replaced after he seemed to damage his knee after an awkward landing.
