A Nigerian woman has stirred a heated controversy online after complaining about what she characterised as excessive and unusual expectations from extended family members ahead of her wedding.
In an emotional outburst, she questioned why a man who wants to marry her must now deal with long lists and financial commitments imposed by people she claims have never played a role in her life.
“If you see this list, guys it will shock you and this umuna that they are talking about, I have not received 5 naira from them. I don’t even know them. This people requesting for things I don’t know them.”
She said the pressure increased when relatives insisted that her fiancé “settle” umunna and umuada before the marriage could take place.
“These people have never bought me sweet before even pad they have not given to me even book pencil nothing and now everybody umuna. I don’t know whether it’s only my village that is doing this one but guys it’s so too much.“
The woman questioned why her partner’s inability to live up to the financial standards imposed by others should lead her marriage to be postponed or dissolved.
