A Nigerian man’s claim that a guy who supports his girlfriend financially has the right to dictate her lifestyle and personal preferences has caused a heated internet controversy.
In a widely circulated video on X (previously Twitter), @ChukEricE asserted that guys are growing “too soft” in contemporary relationships.

“If I am taking care of you as a woman, paying your bills, and making sure every form of stress in your life is non-existent, I will control you.”
He continued by saying that when a guy is solely in charge of their finances, women shouldn’t keep particular connections, insist on personal privacy, or dress in ways that their spouses find objectionable.
The man went on to say that men’s authority and confidence in relationships had been undermined by discussions about “red flags,” social media culture, and TikTok relationship advice.
“I will check your phone because there is no privacy. If you have nothing to hide, there is nothing to hide. I will tell you the friends I don’t want you to keep, and if you don’t want to abide by my principles, nobody is forcing you to stay in the relationship,” he added.
He went on to say that being committed in a relationship requires complete adherence to a man’s values, and anyone who finds that uncomfortable should end the relationship.
Since then, the comments have sparked contentious responses on the internet. His position was supported by several males, but many women strongly disagreed.
One commentor wrote, “So because he pays bills, I have no privacy and no freedom?” Another said, “No amount of money should give someone the right to dictate how I live.”
