“If I enter that bus and you no follow me…” — Groom threatens to leave bride as kinsmen demand ₦300k after ₦2m

During a traditional bride-price ceremony in Mbaise, a woman described the dramatic moment when her husband’s cousin threatened to dissolve their marriage when his bride’s relatives wanted an extra ₦300,000.

She claimed that the groom had already spent over ₦2 million and met all the requirements listed in the original six-page marriage list.

But another list was allegedly provided at the ceremony, and the family insisted that ₦300,000 more be paid before the processes could start.

According to reports, the groom pledged to deliver the money after returning to Warri and clarified that he had not budgeted for the extra amount.

The kinsmen insisted that if he couldn’t make the payment that day, he should go, even after two hours of appeals.

Frustrated, the groom approached his bride and said, “As you see me so, na go I dey. If I enter that bus and you no follow me, marriage don end. I no dey come back here.”

The bride allegedly got up and followed him as he made his way to his car, which led her relatives to call the couple back and agree that the ₦300,000 could be paid later.

However, after growing irate about the prior insistence, the groom allegedly rejected the compromise.

He told them, “I no dey pay any extra money. Either we continue this marriage with the original list we agreed on, or the marriage ends here today.”

The narrator claims that the bride, who already has three children with the groom, begged her family on her knees.

Eventually, the initial arrangement was accepted by the kinsmen, enabling the customary marriage process to proceed without the extra payment.
