Eyiyemi Afolayan, the daughter of Nollywood actor and filmmaker Kunle Afolayan, has sparked debate online after sharing her thoughts on relationships, riches, and marriage.
During an interview with BBC, the young actress described why she would rather marry a financially modest man than a wealthy partner.
According to Eyiyemi, money might occasionally impact how people behave in relationships.
She stated that she would rather be with someone who is hard-working and independent than someone whose financial situation may impair commitment and devotion.
While discussing marriage expectations, Eyiyemi stated that she would not want to be exclusively responsible for her partner’s financial needs.
She did, however, say that she does not mind supporting her husband if he is already doing something useful.
Read her words below:
“I can’t build with a man. Why can’t I build with a man? You know men; they are ingrates.
If I marry a man who doesn’t have money and see money, if I marry him, he will stay with me, not because he loves me, but because he doesn’t have the money to flirt around.”
She added:
“I was born into wealth. Any man who wants to marry me must be doing something for himself. I can’t be feeding him, but I can support him.”
Eyiyemi further stated that she would never agree to be a second or third wife.
She argues that polygamous homes frequently involve problems and unneeded challenges.
She said:
“I can’t be a second or third wife for any man. It is not because I am jealous or anything. A polygamous home comes with a lot of troubles.”
Regardless of her personal beliefs, Eyiyemi said she supports her father’s choices and feels he should live the life he wants.
She stated that she and her siblings would continue to support him regardless of his decisions.
